TOUGH SEASON AHEAD

Franco Di Santo has said that the upcoming season is not going to be easy for Wigan Athletic. Wigan had performed brilliantly towards the end of the last season and defeated some big teams such as Arsenal, Manchester United and Liverpool. As per Santo, it would be quite difficult for the team to put up the same kind of performance again. Santo said that in the last season, the teams took Wigan lightly and Wigan was able to surprise them. But, in the upcoming season, the teams would be keen to take their revenge and the Wigan players would have to play out of their skins to defeat the big teams again.

Santo has been playing for Wigan since the last 2 seasons. He had joined Wigan in August 2010. Wigan bought him from Chelsea after paying a transfer fee of 2 million pounds. He played his first match for Wigan in September 2010 against Sunderland. His first goal for Wigan was also against Sunderland in the later part of the 2010-11 season. He made a very good start to the last season by scoring twice in a match against Queens Park Rangers. He scored goals in some very important matches in the last season including the match against Newcastle United which Wigan had won by 4-0. On being asked about his targets in the upcoming season, Santo said that he would like to continue his good form. The last season was very good for him.  He played well in almost every match and he rarely made mistakes on the field in the last season and he would like to do the same in this season as well.

On being asked about Wigan’s squad for the upcoming season, Santo said that there are some good strikers in the team including Arouna Kone and Victor Moses and the team is good in the defense as well. Hopefully, the team would be able to perform well again.

WIGAN MAKE FIRST SIGNING

Wigan Athletic has signed the Scottish midfielder, Fraser Fyvie, on a contract of three years. However, the contract fee has not yet been disclosed by the club. Since the opening of the transfer window, many English clubs were showing their interest in Fraser, but, eventually, Wigan has been able to sign a contract with the midfielder. The coach of Wigan, Roberto Martinez, has said that Fraser is a terrific young player and it is nice to have him in the team.

Fraser has become the first player to be signed by Wigan in the transfer window of this summer. Before joining Wigan, Fraser used to play for Aberdeen. He played for Aberdeen in 66 matches and scored 3 goals. On being asked about this new contract, Fraser said that he wants to make a move in his career and Wigan could be the right place for him. He said that he is pretty excited about the new club and can’t wait to play his first match for Wigan.

Roberto Martinez said that he has seen Fraser playing for Aberdeen and he has been impressed a lot by the midfielder. As per Roberto, Fraser is technically pretty sound. He is quite powerful and he uses his power to good effect. Also, he has got good head on his shoulders and he reads the game pretty well. According to Roberto, Fraser is a bright prospect and a very good buy for Wigan.

The coach said that Fraser would get a very good environment here in Wigan. While playing for Wigan, he would be able to develop his skills. As per Roberto, the players of Wigan are very supportive and it would not take Fraser too long to settle himself in the team. As per Roberto, the fans of Wigan would welcome Fraser with open hearts and make him feel very good.

IN FINE FORM

Franco di Santo, the Wigan forward netted his 5th goal for this Premier League season against Arsenal in the 2 – 1 win, but does not think that his team can rest on their honor with 4 matches still to play on the Premier League. The Wigan forward warned his team-mates that they have to carry on their recent good form in order to avoid relegation this season.

After turning out to be the very 1st side since Southampton defeat Manchester United and Arsenal in 2001 in back to back games, the Latics now are on thirty-four points, 5 clear of the drop zone. Franco di Santo thinks that further 3 points against Fulham will help them in their always improving call to secure the Premier League status.

While speaking to The Wigan Observer, the Wigan striker told that the relegation fear is not over till now, but they gave given some breathing space. Three victories will be enough or may be less, but they do not
The kind of form they have shown in recent weeks and the kind of teams they have defeated – they are quite good enough to secure four wins. He was really delighted after getting a goal on Monday against Arsenal, bringing his count to 5 for this Premier League season. He also added that it was quite nice to hit the net but it was all about that 3 points.

They team went to Arsenal for a victory, their condition is tough but they have got enough confidence now and by the previous ten matches, they know that they can match any team.

FRANCO COULD STAR

Wigan Athletic manager Roberto Martinez has said that Franco Di Santo could become the star for Wigan athletic this season, as he is one of the best players in the squad right now. Roberto Martinez was instrumental in bringing Franco Di Santo from Chelsea a few seasons ago for just £ 1.5 million. Even though Franco Di Santo’s career at Wigan athletic did not start exactly as planned, he has become more influential within the Wigan squad in recent seasons. The club are battling against relegation this season and are one of the favourites to go down this season.

However, Roberto Martinez has said that he is extremely confident of keeping Wigan athletic in the Premier league next season. He plans to do so by making Franco Di Santo one of the influential members of the squad. The tall Argentine ace is known for making goals rather than scoring them, but Roberto Martinez says that Franco Di Santo could be even more influential in the Wigan squad if he uses his aerial ability to much better effect. Franco Di Santo has scored four goals for Wigan athletic this season, in a squad that has failed to find enjoy in terms of scoring goals. His latest goal came in the 2-1 win over Bolton.

“We all know the potential Franco has as a player, but he has only shown flashes of the real quality I know he possesses. He’s still a young man, but he’s clearly ready to take on more responsibility. Probably the biggest challenge for Franco is to show that kind of performance on a regular basis in the Premier League. If he can do that, his football – and that of the team – will go on to a different level. He will develop into some player,” Martinez told the Wigan Evening Post.

WIGAN LOSE TO THE LEADERS

Franco di Santo could not prevent Wigan athletic from suffering a defeat at the hands of leaders Manchester City on Monday. Premier League leaders Manchester City were the visitors to the DW Stadium on Monday.

It was always going to be a tough match for Wigan athletic, who are down at the bottom of the table. However, even the presence of Franco di Santo in the second half could not prevent Wigan athletic from going to yet another defeat. Roberto Martinez and his men have not won at home since August, but they would have been hoping for a much better result against Manchester City given their performance.

Franco di Santo came on for Wigan athletic on the second half, but was unable to find the equaliser for Wigan athletic. He was one of the influential players in helping Wigan get a 1-1 draw with Chelsea a few weeks earlier, but he could not repeat the heroics for Wigan athletic this time around. Edin Dzeko was starting his first match for Manchester City after many months and was also looking for his first goal in 11 matches. However, he managed to get past a very impressive Al Habsi in the Wigan athletic goal in the 22nd minute.

“I’ve been here long enough to understand that trying to influence the referee is not accepted in the British game. I’ve been here since 1995 so when a player tries to simulate or to buy a decision from the referee that’s not seen as clever, that’s seen as cheating,” he said regarding the controversy surrounding Manchester city manager Roberto Mancini’s imaginary yellow card gesture. Wigan will be facing the likes of QPR and Tottenham in the next few fixtures. They’ll be looking to collect the maximum points from the away game against QPR.

Di Santo: We Need More Wins

Wigan Athletic striker Franco di Santo is looking forward to his club maintaining the momentum that they have gathered now after winning their win against Sunderland, which was their first away win of the season in the English Premier League and he believes that the team have now left their misfortune behind them and is hoping that they can string a few results together that will take them out of the relegation zone and into relative safety.

The 22 year old Argentine striker, who spent two years on the books of Chelsea is in his first full season with Wigan Athletic after spending the season on loan last term and wants to help his team climb as high up the League as possible after just escaping relegation on the final day of last season. Franco di Santo believes that the team has it in them to string a few results together, staring with the match against Arsenal but he knows that will be a very difficult thing to do, with the kind of form that Arsenal are in at the moment.

He also believes that once all the players of the side are fully fit and return to action, the team will look completely different and believes that manager Roberto Martinez is the right to take them to safety, as he did with them last year. He also hailed the impact on the team by James McArthur and feels that they could strike up a successful partnership in time that will ultimately benefit Wigan Athletic. Franco di Santo is definitely one player who is extremely high on confidence at the moment and according to the player himself, this confidence and self belief is the key to them being able to avoid relegation to the Championship and return for another season to the English Premier League.
