Argentine striker Franco Di Santo has finally made his debut for San Lorenzo in the Primera Division in his native Argentina. The ex-Werder Bremen, Chelsea and Audax Italiano striker moved to San Lorenzo in the summer and his first appearance for the club was delayed by an injury. Franco Di Santo joined San Lorenzo on a free transfer at the end of his contract with Atletico Mineiro in the Brazilian Serie A.
Franco Di Santo made his debut in the league as he came on for Mariano Peralta at the start of the second half of the game with Argentinos Juniors. At the stage, hosts San Lorenzo were leading 1-0 at home through the goal from Oscar Romero on the stroke of half-time. Angel Romero would go on to wrap up the points for San Lorenzo on 55 minutes as Di Santo made a winning debut courtesy the 2-0 home victory over Argentinos Juniors. The debut for Franco Di Santo came on Monday, November 23, 2020.
His second game for San Lorenzo soon followed. The 31-year-old forward featured for San Lorenzo during the league trip to face Estudiantes. San Lorenzo forced Estudiantes to a goalless draw away from home. Franco Di Santo came on as a second half substitute for Mariano Peralta just like he did on his debut. The Argentine striker replaced Peralta immediately the second half started. The game with Estudiantes was played on Tuesday, December 1, 2020.
The draw at Estudiantes ensured that Franco Di Santo and San Lorenzo maintained their place as the top team in their group ahead of Argentinos Juniors. San Lorenzo have 11 points from the five games played in the league this season, while Argentinos Juniors are in second place with seven points. Aldosivi and Estudiantes are in third and last position on the group with seven and two points respectively.
